The
steamerAvesta was built at Kockums Varv in Malmö in
Sweden, and was launched in 1913. She had a
straightforward career and survived the first world war.
Under a voyage from Gothenburg to Hull in England loaded
with paper, she ran aground in a snow storm and sank
16.March 1940 outside Risør. Of the crew, 11 men perished
of drowning in the ice cold weather. Today the remains
rest on a depth of 10 to 20 meter at Grønholmene.
