George
M Livanos was built in 1928 in Sunderland and was sold in
1928 to Deutche Levante Line (DLL). After the outbreak of
world war two she was requisitioned by the German
Kriegsmarine. Little is known about her war years, and she
was laid up in Grimstad after a grounding in 1945. Two
years later it was decided to scrap her, and under tow by
two tugboats she sunk outside Hesnes 14.September 1947.
Totally scrapped on site according to several sources, and
reports from divers state that some scattered wreck debris
has been seen on the salvage site.
