The
Norwegian steamer Mimona hit ground at Styret south of
Kongshamn 12.January 1942. She was on a journey from
Kirkenes to Tromsø in ballast when she hit ground.
According to some unofficial sources, she did service for
the German Kriegsmarine, but this has not been verified.
The history for this ship is sometimes conflicting but
most sources claim she was she was spotted and torpedoed
by the Soviet submarine S 101 and totally put out of
action. The wreck itself is today totally broken up, and
the remains of the once proud ship, rest on a depth of
approx 5 to10 meter.
