Arisan

Møre & Romsdal,Norway

The Panama registered ship Arisan ran aground at Runde 12.January 1992. She was on a journey to the Netherlands loaded with iron ore from Narvik when she stranded on Geitemaren. In the weeks that followed she and the dire situation got big media coverage and became quite in-famous. She experienced engine problems before the accident and slowly drifted, and the only light the crew had to work with to fix her problems were flashlights and oil lamps. Two tugboats were in the area but the captain on Arisan refused any assistance. Soon after she was stuck on Geitmaren and was in the coming weeks slowly broken down. 15.March 1992 she was no longer visible on the surface. The battered remains rest today on a depth of 10 to 30 meter.
