KNM
Torp became a victim for the storm that raged in
Kristiansund 1 January 1992. In the chaos the rescue
cruiser Ada Waage was sent out to help the crew on a
stranded freighter outside Kristiansund, when Torp
suddenly comes drifting in the sea without a crew. Torp
had laid at anchor, but in the strong winds the mooring
had been teared of and she now drifted around helplessly.
Attempts to tow her to safety failed as the cable lbroke
and again she drifted away out of sight A few days later
rumors started to circulate that KNM Torp had been found
by divers at Kvitnes lighthouse, and this proved to be
correct. The wreck rest today on her keel as a classic
Donald Duck on a depth of approx 12 to 26 meter next to
Kvitnes in Nordsundet.
