Saltstraumen was built by Sandnessjøen Slipp & Verksted, and was launched in 1963 for the company Saltens Dampskipsselskap in Bodø. She changed hands several times during her career, until she ended up owned by Nordfjord Entreprenør AS in Sandefjord in 2002. Under a journey from Måløy to Ålesund she sailed got entangled in a big rope and was dragged down in the deep outside Storholmen in 2009. The wreck rest on her keel as a classic Donald Duck wreck on a depth of 15 meter on the west side of Storholmen according to the dive club Ægir.
