27.October 1977 the cargo on board the East-German freighter Karlshorst shifted in Vestfjorden under rough weather and she developed a listing. She was on a voyage from Arkanghelsk to Rostock loaded with wood. Several vessels, among them the Norwegian navy vessel KNM Narvik and 2 Sea King rescue helicopters came to assist. It was considered to take her in tow, but due to the risk in rough sea it was decided to ground her. On the afternoon 27.October she had a strong listing and soon sank. Its said that before the ship went down in the deep, the local population managed to "rescue" quite a lot from her. The remains rest today on a depth of 25 meter west of Roholmen outside Ballstad.
