U
64 participated in the German battle group that attacked
Narvik under Operation Weserübung in April 1940, the
invasion of Norway. U 64 was sunk under the second naval
engagement in Narvik 13.April 1940 by depth charges from a
British Swordfish plane that was sent from the battleship
Warspite while she was anchored outside Bjerkvik. In the
attack 8 men perished, while the commander and 38 men
survived. The wreck of U 64 was raised and scrapped in
1957.
