Heimnes

Rogaland,Norway

Heimnes was laid down in Bergen in 1870 under the name Skjold for the Norwegian company Det Stavangerske Dampskibsselskab. She was sold several times before she ended up with her last name Heimnes. Under a journey from Sandnes to Hardanger loaded with building materials and a crew of two men, she hit ground 16.June 1966 after being overtaken by strong currents and developed a leak. Soon after the crew had to abandon ship and she soon capsized and went down in the deep. The wreck rest today near the Karmøy bridge on a depth of 15 to 30 meter.
