Helganes ran aground north of Klovningen 16 November 1990. The weather was good with light breeze and the Captain Karsten Vedøy maneuvered with the autopilot. He noticed the rocks near Klovningen and tried to steer away, but a grounding was inevitable.After a quick check in the engine room they noticed the water streamed in and tried to start the pumps. But the water was already too high in the engine room and soon after the engines stopped. Shortly after she sank and the crew was picked up by a vessel that came to assistance. The wreck rest today on a depth of 20 to 36 meter southwest of Marøy light near Åkra.
