U 974


The German uboat U 974 was torpedoed 19.April 1944 by the Norwegian Submarine Ula. She went down with 42 men in the deep, and only eight men of her crew survived. The sinking of U 974 was noted in the German statistics and soon forgotten until 1996. The wreck was then discovered by the Norwegian navy vessel KNM Tyr who found her on a depth of 190 meter outside Stavanger. The wreck rest today half a nautical mile southeast of Loten in the western part of Bokanfjord. The wreck was surveyed in 2006 to map any environmental hazards.
