Toran

The
steam tanker Toran was built in England in 1944 as an
escort trawler under the name HMT Ailsa Craig, but ended
up in Norway already two years later for new owners in
Stavanger. She was in 1947 rebuilt and fitted out as a
tanker. She sank outside Jomfruland after she was screwed
down by ice under a journey from Bodø to Fredrikstad
loaded with fish oil 19.February 1955. The wreck of Toran
has not yet been found, but its believed she rest close to
shore.
