Hamo
was built by Mjellem
& Karlsen AS in Bergen and was launched in June
1929. She was
used as a local ferry by the Norwegian company Hardanger
Søndhordlanske Dampskipsselskap and in 1962 she was sold
and rebuilt as a coastal freighter. In December 1983 she
sank at the pier of Statland wharf in the Namsfjord.
Attempts to drag the wreck out to deeper waters and clear
the ship lane failed, and the whole project had to be
abandoned. The wreck rest today on a depth of approx 8 to
15 meter outside the pier of the old wharf.
