Peursum was laid down by Van Der Giessen & Zonen in Krimpen in 1939, and was launched two years later. She was requisitioned and put in service for Hansa Line in 1942, first renamed Eberstein, then followed by Rauenthaler. Northwest of Trondheim she collided with the German vessel S/S Signal 8.September 1943 outside Maltsekken and sank. She was loaded with military equipment and soldiers, and nineteen men lost their lives in the accident. The wreck was found in October 2011 on a depth of 150 meter east of Linesøya.
