Stavfjord was built in Rosslau in Germany in 1972 for the Norwegian company Lys Line AS. Under a journey from Gullhaug to Jøssingfjord loaded with dynamite and nitrate 11.January 1993, she develop a listing and was abandoned by her crew. Still afloat, she was later taken in tow, but the cable broke en route and she ran aground at Valvik. Stuck on the reef, the cargo exploded and the ship was declared a total wreck. The battered remains of her rest today south of Mandal on a depth of 7 to 25 meter northwest of Østreskjæret.
