Vikingen

Vikingen
was built in Sunderland in England, and was launched in
1847. She was sold to a Norwegian owner in Drammen in
1861, and rebuilt ten years later. After being sold
several times she was rigged down in 1908. Its believed
she sank in 1925 for reasons unknown, ,most likely after
being laid up. In 2000 wreck debris was found on the west
side of Langøya outside Holmestrand by the divers Kai
Garseg, Kjetil Nygård and Chriss Johnsen. It is believed
these remains originate from the barque. The remains of
her rest south of the pier on the west side of Langøya on
a depth of 15 to 18 meter.
