Carnoules
was built by Büsumer Schiffwerft AG in Germany, and was
launched in 1969 for the French company Fabre
Societe Generale de Transports Maritime in Marseille.
After an accident in Corsica she was sold to Norway in
1973 and repaired. The year after she was bought by the
Norwegian company Det Stavangerske Dampskipselskap and
renamed to Austri. Under a journey from Norway to Poland
she capsized and went down under a storm outside the
Sognefjord 19.September 1979. The wreck was later scrapped
on site, but part of her bow and scattered mechanical
parts and wreck debris rest today west of Byrknesøy on a
depth of approx 20 meter.
