The
steamer Grimstad was built by Fredrikstad Mekaniske
Verksted in Norway, and was launched in May 1893. After a
few changes in both names and ownership, she sailed under
the name as Bandak. In the 1940s she was rebuilt where she
had her tonnage slightly increased. She sank in the deep
in Sognefjorden in February 1949 under a journey from Oslo
to Årdal. Of her crew of thirteen men, nine lost their
lives in the accident. Today the flattened wreck of Bandak
rest on a depth of approximately 15 to 20 meter at
Svartskjær southwest of Nesøy.
