The
steamer Frankenwald was built in Germany and was launched
in 1922. Under a journey along the Norwegian coastline,
she lost control and hit ground at Brattholmen 6.January
1940. Emergency signals were sent which were heard by
Bergen Radio. The crew then abandoned ship and were taken
care off fishing boats who had arrived to assist after the
distress call. The wreck was abandoned for years, and
after second world war the wreck finally got some
attention. The Norwegian salvage company Anda Brothers cut
off the propeller, but not much else was salvaged. The
wreck rest on her keel
as a classic Donald Duck wreck on the west side of Ytre
Sula at Brattholmen, on a depth of 15 to 30
meter.
