Katja
was built in Geesthacht
in Germany, and was launched in
1948. She was rebuilt three years later and sold to new
owners in Norway. Under a
journey from Mo i Rana to Bergen loaded with steel, she
hit ground at Storebåen
in
Fedjefjord 16.November 1964 after an navigational error.
Her bow was heavily damaged and in the following hours
they had time to salvage some inventory and personal
belongings before they had to abandon ship. She
disappeared in the deep a few days later under a gale. The remains
of her rest today northeast of Storebåen west of Lynguksen
on a depth of approximately 10 to 20 meter.
