Lynx

Vestland,Norway

The steamship Lynx was heavily damaged after being attacked by Allied airplanes at Stavenes light outside Askvoll 19.September 1941. In an attempt to rescue her after the attack she was beached at Stavenes. She was owned by Bergenske Dampskipsselskap, but had sailed under German flag since April 1940 and was therefore a legitimate target. Attempts to re-float the wreck was made, but during the salvage work she sank in deeper waters. Future attempts to salvage her was abandoned and Lynx was written off as a total loss. The wreck rest today close up to the mountain wall south of Stavenes on a depth of 90 to 100 meter.
