Gert
Hansen was built in Hamburg in Germany, and was launched
in 1955. Her history is rather straightforward as she did
duty as a small freighter until her fatal accident 8.April
2001. On a journey towards Sjursøya in Oslo
loaded with salt, she went down with two men of her
crew on the east side of Håøya after a collision
with a navigation light nearby. Two crew members survived
the accident, while the captain was later found floating
dead in the water, and divers brought the other casualty
up from the wreck the following day. The wreck of Gert
Hansen rest today on her keel as a classic Donald Duck
wreck on a depth of approximately 50 to 70 meter north of
Oscarsborg.
