Juno

Viken,Norway

The steamer Juno sank in the bay of Holtnesstøa outside Rødtangen in February 1962.  She had for decades been used in the local coastal traffic, but had been taken out of service in the early 1960s and laid up. Unattended she later sank in the bay. The wreck used to rest on a depth of 5 to 15 meter and was for many years a popular dive site, but in June 2001 this came to an end. The organization Stiftelsen DS Juno had collected money to salvage this old steamer. After the salvaging it became clear that the wreck was in a very bad condition, and she was later scrapped. According to information from Holmestrand municipality, her bow is exhibited at the pier in the city centre.
