USS Aaron Ward

USS
Aaron Ward was laid down as a Gleaves class destroyer at
Federal Shipbuilding & Drydock Company in February
1941, and was launched in November the same year. She was
commissioned in March 1942, and earned herself four battle
stars during world war two. She was damaged by dive
bombers during a Japanese air raid 6. April 1943 at
Guadalcanal. She was taken under tow but sank on her way
back to Tulagi. The battered wreck was found by divers in
1994, and rest today on a depth of approximately 65 to 75
meters in Savo sound near Tinete Point.
