IJN Akitsushimawas
built by Kawasaki
Shipbuilding and launched for the Japanese navy
in July 1941. She was put in service in April 1942. She
was designed to support sea planes and was put in
service under 11.Air fleet in the navy and sent to
Rabaul. She was damaged several times in battles at
Rabaul og Truk and was in the middle of 1943 repaired
and transferred to 14.Air fleet. While she laid at Coron
she was hit by two bombs and sunk by American planes
from Task Force 38 in the morning 24.September 1944.
Four officers and 82 men from the crew perished. The
wreck rest today on her port side on a depth of 18 to 40
meter between the islands Busuanga and Culion Island.
