Dimitri
Donskoi was an armored cruiser laid down by JSC Admiralty
Shipyard in St. Petersburg in May 1881 for the Imperial
Russian Navy. She was launched in August 1883 and entered
service two years later. She spent most of her time
sailing in Europe, the Mediterranean and the Far East. She
was after hostilities broke out between Russia and Japan,
assigned to 2nd Pacific Squadron and set sail for
Vladivostok 15. October 1904. In the Battle of Tsushima
Strait she was engaged several times by Japanese forces,
and after the second engagement 28. May 1905 she was badly
damaged and was anchored up outside Ulleungdo. Due to the
damaged she had received she was scuttled the next
morning. The wreck was found in the early 2000's one
nautical mile east of the island Ullenungdo on a depth of
420 meter.
