Jingyuan was an armored cruiser laid down by Vulkan AG in Stettin in Germany, and was launched in January 1887 for the Chinese government. She sailed to China the year after, and in July 1894 war broke out between China and Japan. She engaged Japanese forces in the Yalu River 17.September 1894 and was sunk after a furious battle. The wreck of her was found in 2018 on a depth of twelve meter resting upside-down in a remarkable good condition. Also see the wreck of the cruiser Zhiyuan.
