IJN Shigure


Shigure was a Shiratsuyu class destroyer that was laid down by Uraga Dock Company in December 1933 for the Imperial Navy. She was launched in May 1935, and was commissioned the year after. She was extensively used as a escort under second world war, and participated in the Battle of Midway in 1942 and supplying the Japanese forces under the battles of Guadalcanal. She was engaged in battle several times, and was finally sunk by the American submarine USS Blackfin 24.January 1945 in the Gulf of Thailand. Remains of a wreck which is believed to be IJN Shigure, rest today on a depth of approximately 55 meter northeast of Kuala Terengganu.
