Toa Maru

Toa Maru was a general cargo ship built by Kawaminami Kogyo K.K, and was launched in 1939 for the Japanese company Osaka Shosen K.K in Osaka. She was in 1941 requisitioned by the Imperial Japanese Navy and extensively used as an auxiliary military transport in the Pacific. Under a journey from Rabaul to Kolombangara Island 31. January 1943 she was spotted and attacked north of Gizo island by American Grumman Wildcats and TBF Dauntless airplanes. After a couple of sweeps she was hit twice in the bow section and disappeared in the deep. The wreck rest today on her starboard side on a depth of 8 to 38 meter about one hundred meter from shore on the north side of  Kololuka Island.
