IJN Tokai Maru

Tokai
Maru was a Japanese freighter built at Mitsubishi
Industries in Nagasaki and launched in May 1930 for the
company Osaka Shosen K.K She was requisitioned by the
Japanese navy in October 1941 and used as a transport
ship. While she laid at anchor in Guam she was torpedoed
and damaged by the American submarine USS Flying Fish
24.January 1943, and thereafter sunk by two torpedoes
from USS SNapper under command of Lt
Commander Clementson 27.August 1943. The
wreck rest today on her port side next to the wreck of SMS
Cormoran on a depth of 14 to 38 meter in Apra
Harbor, and a big hole on the port side clearly bear the
mark from the sinking in 1943.
