New Guinea

The
steamer New Guinea was built by Doxford
& Sons in Sunderland and launched in October 1884
for the company Mcilwraith in Melbourne. Under a journey
from Melbourne to Sydney loaded with machines she hit
ground at Disaster Bay 13.February 1911. She was broken
down over time and in the 1960s salvage was done on the
wreck. The remains rest today on a depth of 10 meter
northwest of Green Cape lighthouse.
