New South Wales

The steamer New Guinea was built by Doxford & Sons in Sunderland in England, and was launched in October 1884 for the company McIlwraith in Melbourne. Under a journey from Melbourne to Sydney loaded with machines, she hit ground at Disaster Bay 13.February 1911. She was written off as a total loss and was over the decades broken down. In the 1960's salvage was done on the battered wreck. The remains of her rest today on a depth of approximately 10 meter northwest of Green Cape lighthouse.
