HMNZS Waikato

HMNZS Waiakato was laid down at Harland & Wollf in Belfast in January 1964, and was launched in February the next years. She was one of two Leander class frigates built for the New Zealand navy, her sister ship the HMNZS Canterbury.  She was commissioned in 1966, and did service for the navy until 1998. She was sold in for a whole 1 dollar and was sunk as an artificial reef southeast of Tutakaka 25.November 2000. The wreck rest today resting on her keel with a slight listing towards port, on a depth of 8 to 28 meter.
