Maria Bacolitsa

Maria Bacolitsa was built as a bulk carrier at James Laing & Sons Ltd in Sunderland, and was launched in May 1962. She sailed until 1969 for the Swedish company Tore Ulff AB before she was sold to Greece. Under a journey from Brasil to Romania loaded with iron she sank after having sent out an SOS 1.March 1980. Both the ship and the crew disappeared mysteriously, and the reason is still unclear and debated even today. The wreck rest today on a depth of approximately 22 to 45 meter outside Olimp southeast of Constanta.
