Sulina was built by Cantieri Riunti dell Adriatico in Monfalcone, and was launched in 1939, reputedly for the Royal family. She was soon after she arrived Romania, confiscated by the government. This is not verified and several official sources state the owner as "the Romanian Government"in the first place. Little is known about her history before 1942. She was spotted and torpedoed by the Russian submarine A-3 outside the city of Odessa 29.May 1942. Here the wreck rest today, some five nautical miles outside the city of Odessa on a depth of 15 to 20 meter.
