Captain
Keith Tibbets was originally a Cuban anti submarine
frigate built in Zelenodolsk
in the Soviet Union in 1982. She was
built under the so-called
Project 1159T as the Soviet called these
constructions, and she stood ready in
1983. She was delivered to Cuba in August that same
year, and did service in the navy until the mid 1990's. In
1996 she was bought by Cayman Island to be sunk as an
artificial reef and to create a local dive attraction.
Right before the sinking she was named after the local
politician and business man Keith Tibbets. The wreck rest
today approximately 200 meters from shore on a depth of 25
meter north of West End on Cayman Brac.
