Cayman Trader

Cayman Trader was a general cargo ship built by Bergen Mekaniske Verksted in Norway, and was launched in June 1950 for Halfdan Kuhnles Rederi AS. She changed both names and owners several times before she sailed as Cayman Trader for Cayman Tanker Ltd in Georgetown. While moored up in Port Royal after she was arrested for reasons unknown, she caught fire 13. August 1977. She was towed out of the harbor and beached where she was burned out and sank. The battered wreck rest today between South and Southeast Keys outside Kingston on a depth of 10 to 13 meter. Also see the adjacent wreck of HMT Texas.
