Convair CV - 440 Metropolitan

Outside the airport on Aruba, rest the wrecks of two airplanes in shallow waters. One of them is a Japanese produced YS-11 and the other a Convair CV-440 Metropolitan. According to the local rumors, the Convair airplane smuggled a big load of narcotics from the Central America's in the 1990's and was seized and confiscated by the authorities. The airplane was later deliberately dumped outside the airport. The remains of the plane rest today on a depth of approximately 14 to 23 meter right outside Sonesta Reef.
