Appian was laid down at Bergen Mekaniske Verksted in Norway, and was delivered in January 1950 to Rederi Titanian AS. She changed name and owners a few times before she ended up sailing for the Liberian company Royallib Shipping Company in 1968. In 1971 she was transferred to Pelican Marine Agencies and renamed Fenix. Under a journey from Monitarsetas to Costa Rica she capsized and sank outside Puerto Limon 2. March 1973. The wreck rest today about two nautical miles outside Puerto Limon on a depth of 20 meter.
