Thomas
Stevns was costal cargo freighter laid down by Husumer
Schiffswerft GmbH & Co. KG, and was launched in 1963
for the Danish company Stevns Charter & Towage AS who
used her in trade in the Baltic Sea.
In 1974 she was sold to new owners in Port of Spain in
Trinidad and renamed Hema 1. Under a journey from Grenada
to Trinidad in ballast she developed a leak 5. March 2005.
The crew tried to steer her back to St. George but was
force to send out a distress call and abandon ship. She
soon after disappeared in the deep and the crew was picked
up by the coast guard. The battered remains of her
rest today on a depth of 30 meter about 2,5 nautical miles
south of Grenada.
