Stavronikita was on a journey from Foynes to Barbados loaded with cement 28.August 1976 when she caught fire after an explosion and the crew had to abandon ship. 6 men of the crew perished. She was towed to Bridgetown and left alone for 2 years. In 1978 Barbados bought the wreck for 30000 dollar and sunk her as an artificial reef 22.November the same year. The wreck rest south west of Fitts Village on a depth of 25 to 35 meter.
