USNS
Kellar T-AGS 25 was built in Washington in USA and was
launched in July 1964 as a survey ship for the US Navy.
She was delivered to US Navy in January 1969. After narly
two decades in service she was delivered to the Portuguese
navy in February 1988 as part of the SAP assistance
program. Some sources state she was transferred in 1972
but this we have not been able to verify, not does the US
Navy confirm this. She was renamed to NRP A527 Almeida
Carvalho and did service as a hydrographic vessel until
2002. Obsolete and stricken from the navy lists, she was
scuttled outside Almor beach 21.September 2013 as an
artificial reef. She rest today on her keel as a classic
"Donald Duck" wreck on a depth of 20 meter approx three
nautical miles outside Almor beach in Algarve.
