Chasseur 5 was a submarine hunter laid down by Ateliers et Chantiers De France in Dunquerque, and was launched in 1940 for the French Navy. After the French capitulation in the summer 1940 she sailed to England where she was taken over by Royal Navy and renamed HMS Carentan. She was handed over  to Forces Navales Fran�aises Libres, The Free French Forces, in early 1943. Under a journey as an escort from Portland to to Portsmouth, she capsized and sank under gale with the loss of 17 men from her crew 21. December 1943.  The wreck rest today on her port side on a depth of 30 to 35 meter southeast of Swanage. Also see the wreck of the troop transport HMHS Kyarra.
