Estonia,Baltic Sea

The car and passenger ferry Estonia was built by Meyer Werft in Papenburg, and was launched in 1980 for Estline Maritime Ltd. Under a voyage from Talinn to Stockholm she foundered and sank late at night outside the coast of Estonia 28. September 1994. It is believed 852 people lost their lives in the accident, most of them passengers. The wreck rest today on her starboard side on a depth of 55 to 85 meter. Memorials has been been raised both in Stockholm in Sweden and at Hiiumaa in Finland.
