Johannes
L went down south of Koppervik harbor in the morning
26.November 1979. She had left Koppervik harbor and was on
her way to Stralsund, but at the exit of the harbor they
had done a bad maneuver and damaged her bow. Captain
Ferdinand Gerkens believed they hadn't taken any damage
and continued south towards Stralsund. A few hundred
meters outside the harbor she had her bow ripped open, and
was quickly flooded. An emergence signal was sent over
radio, and Gerkens gave order to abandon ship. The wreck
rest today on a depth of 5 to 10 meter.
