The
Russian Bayan class cruiser Pallada stood fully finished
in 1911, and was assigned to the Baltic fleet in
St.Petersburg. Only a few months after the outbreak of
world war one she was spotted outside Hankø and torpedoed
by the German uboat U26
commanded by Egewolf Freiherr von Berckheim. Captain
Magnus Sergei and 596 men lost their lives in the sinking.
The wreck was found split up in three parts in 2000 on a
depth of 40 to 46 meter south of Hangø.
