The steamer Rigel was a coastal freighter laid down at Sandviken Skeppsdock & Mekaniske Verkstad in Sweden, and was launched in 1920 for the Swedish company Gustav Erikson. The newly appointed captain wasn't very satisfied with his new ship however, complaining it leaked when goods were loaded, and was rather unstable in general. Only five months later she was sold to the Finnish company Suomen Valtamerentakainen. Under a journey to Åbo she got stuck in the ice outside Tjärvens lighthouse 7. March 1923, where she got screwed down by the ice. The wreck rest today on her keel as a classic Donald Duck wreck, two nautical miles northeast of Tjärvens lighthouse.
