The ferry Skagerak was laid down at Ålborg Værft AS in Denamrk, and was launched for the Norwegian company Kristiansand Dampskipsleskap in June 1965. Her career was indeed short lived. The year after launch under a journey from Kristiansand to Hirtshals, she sailed into a storm in Skagerak 7. September 1966. Heavy seas broke her stern port and she started to flood. Emergency signals were sent and a major rescue operation to save the people on board was launched. All the people on board was miraculously saved, but the ship itself was doomed and sank. The wreck rest today upside down on a depth of 20 to 25 meter about four nautical miles west of the city of Hirtshals.
