Thetis was built as a research vessel in 1961 and was used for several years researching the marine environment. In 1982 she was rebuilt as a trawler and did service in the fishing industry. 24. October 1985 she was on her way back to port loaded with fish, when she outside Smögen was met with strong winds and rough seas. She developed a listing and started taking in water. Captain Gunnar Knutson and his crew of nine men had to abandon ship. It is believed that lack of stability was the cause of the accident. The wreck rest today standing on her keel as a classic Donald Duck wreck on a depth of 25 to 32 meter north of Kungshamn.
