580 was built by Blohm & Voss in Hamburg, and was
launched 28.May 1941. She was put under command of
Oberleutnant zur see Hans Günther Kuhlmann ( also see U
166 ) and sent to 5.Unterseeboot flotille in Kiel.
Under battle training outside Litauen, she was rammed by
the German target steamer Angelburg 11.November 1941.
Twelve men of the crew perished in the accident. The wreck
was discovered by divers totally intact in the summer 2013
outside Klaipeda. The wreck rest today on a depth of 40
meters standing on her keel.
