976 was a type VII uboat that was built at Blohm &
Voss in Hamburg in 1942. She was launched in March 1943,
and put under command of Oberleutnant zur see Raimund
Tielser. After a period as a training boat in 5.Flotille,
she was transferred in November 1943 to 7.Flotille
in St. Nazaire. She participated in six Wolfpack
operations in the Atlantic sea before she herself was
sunk by British Mosquito planes outside St. Nazaire
25.March 1944. Four men of the crew perished under the
attack. The wreck rest today on a depth of 45 to 54
meter southwest of Noirmontier-en-Ile.
